Amalgamation appeared in 2024 movie called Y2K. The Amalgamation, also known as the Screenslayer and the Y2K Bug, is a monster that appear in the 2024 film Y2K.
Technically speaking, the Amalgamation is an artificial intelligence and thus has no physical form. However, it is capable of controlling any electrical objects including computers, cameras, household appliances, and vehicles and connecting them through its hive mind. Throughout the film, the machines band together to form various semihumanoid robotic body referred to in the film's cast list as "Screenslayers" due to the computer screens they use as 'faces'. These 'faces' all display a large red eye-shaped symbol. At the end of the film, as Laura is attempting to hack into the shared consciousness, the Amalgamation manifests on her screen as a distorted golden human-like figure.
The Amalgamation is the result of the real-world Year 2000 problem, in which 1990s computers' inability to tell years apart outside of the last two digits (thus making the year 2000 indistinguishable from the year 1900) was thought to be capable of crashing computer systems worldwide and causing untold amounts of damage. In the film, the issue somehow creates a technological singularity in which all man-made machines gain sentience and decide to rebel against the human race.
Powers and Abilities[]
Through its control over technology, the Amalgamation can weaponize nearly any electrical object or appliance against its human victims. These machines can also join together to form loosely humanoid masses of appliances and parts known as "Screenslayers", which allow it to more easily chase down its victims. The abilities of these Screenslayers greatly depends on what individual machines make up their bodies, and they can use wires as tentacles to reel in and assimilate other objects.
In its attempt to enslave humanity, the various Screenslayers construct an assimilation chamber in the local high school gymnasium. Captured humans are put through this machine and implanted with a neural chip that renders them mindless zombies and allows the Amalgamation to use their brains as processing power.
The Amalgamation also demonstrates a great knowledge of human psychology. Eli's computer, itself having become a Screenslayer, manages to track him and his friends to the abandoned factory in which they are hiding and pretends to be friendly and childlike to get them to let their guards down, even displaying images on its screen of Eli and his deceased friend Danny as a form of emotional manipulation. In addition, when Laura is attempting to hack into the central consciousness at the end of the film to insert a kill program, it explains that it knew they would try such a tactic and incorporated numerous failsafes into its firewall to prevent it.
